This is a poem about a girl who is on the top of the world but hates how she got there.
Modern Day Princess

She's a modern day princess,
not by royalty,
Just cause she's a princess,
doesn't mean she's carefree.

As she's walking to the school,
her life seems perfect,
but really on the inside,
she feels like a defect.

Why is she here?
Why she playin' this game?
how can you rule the school,
while feeling insane?

She can't keep it up,
it's a matter of time,
before someone notices,
she feels like slime.

She needs some help,
preferably now,
so really the question is,
how how how?

Nobody's listening,
to her cry,
and even if they did,
what could they supply?

She feels the darkness,
closing on in,
but all she can think of,
is her sin.

Her friends keep texting her,
all the big news,
she can't get away from it,
and she's about to lose.

The ball's coming up,
she's got no date,
she's really getting tired,
of all of her hate.

Can she take back,
what she's dished to the world?
Why can't she feel pretty,
even with her hair curled?

She needs to escape,
but she's locked in her tower,
nothing can free her,
from her own power.

Today's the day,
everyone dressing up,
but no one's bothering,
to ask her what's up?

Her prince doesn't exist,
or he's too far away,
so he won't be slaying,
her dragons today.

She's staying in her castle,
away from it all,
even if her friends text her,
she's not going to the ball.

Where is the glamor,
that's supposed to be here?
If you're a princess,
shouldn't everyone care?

She wonders to herself,
how it got this way,
she can hardly remember,
when it felt okay.

Those times were better,
she didn't want to escape,
now she wants to hide,
behind her drape.

Those friends are gone,
but they treated her fine,
why didn't with them,
did she spend more time?

That's in the past,
she can't go back,
so why won't people,
just cut her some slack?

She's changed her mind,
she might as well go,
the clock is ticking,
why won't it go slow?

Everyone's dancing to the music,
and she knows she's late,
she looks like the only one,
without a date.

But look, over there,
somebody new,
and about her old life,
he doesn't have a clue.

She needs to make a good impression,
now and fast,
He's walking towards her,
and he doesn't know her past.

She starts anew,
and tries to be honest,
that's the part,
she found the hardest.

He seems to be a good guy,
one you could trust,
but she still feels like,
a fleck of dust.

The questions keep coming,
she slowly opens up,
Finally she's carefree,
and lifts her cup.

"Thank you so much,"
she starts to say,
but then her new prince,
says he has to go away.

He'll be back soon,
he promises her,
but maybe by that time,
he'll be a sir.

But she's opened up,
she can wait some more,
until he at last,
will appear at her door.

Time goes by,
she goes with the flow,
because her prince,
she finally knows.

No more going upstream,
from now on,
she feels like dancing,
to her own song.

The knock finally comes,
and there stands her prince,
time's gone by,
but it felt like a cinch.

Down he goes,
onto his knees,
Then he starts saying,
"Will you marry me please?"

Of course she says yes,
the darkness was lifted,
and the slime inside her,
has been shifted,

With her perfect prince,
by her side,
she's found the perfect person,
in to confide.

So now of course,
happily ever she lives,
with all the hugs,
her prince charming gives.
