Happiness felt in the depths of summer
What happiness is this?

It wells up inside my very being, where I once felt weak and un-whole

Summers true wonder steeps me in angelic bliss

A fountain overspilling into my senses, quenching my parched soul.

Climbing out of that deep abyss, I stumble trip and falter

From a past life and experiences I will not miss

Where I thought my feelings wouldn't alter.

But how do I describe? Roses? Rainbows? No, far too cliche

It deserves something more to describe its unspeakable beauty

I must do it some justice and find some other way

and describe the feelings it has stirred inside of me.

A soft warm breeze breathes over my awakened skin

Caressing my shoulders, gently like a lovers touch

It teases my hair, kisses my neck, makes my head spin

And I lose myself in natures mild clutch

A raindrop, fat with dew, transparent yet full of beauty

Catching the glare of the sun, taming it, turning it tranquil

Tender scents drift in the hazy air, sweet grass, warm heather, almost lost in obscurity

but my own wakefulness reminds me they remain there still

Rich colours in the flower fields, fresh from an artists palette

Thick swabs of colour, deep and warm on a canvass, leaves grass and tree

Lavish strokes with loving care, where brush and canvas met

Will the colour transfer? Allowing me to take their beauty with me?

Trees laden down with sweet heavy fruit

Almost pleading with me to take the burden from their limb

Glisten with moisture, wearing a honey coloured suit

What tantalising flavours must lie beneath its creamy skin?

What was once heavy burden to the tall majestic spruce

Now helpless under the pressure of ivory

Succulent nectar runs down my chin, drenching dry lips with their syrupy juice

and their taste and smell beyond heavenly

Plump bees lazy in flight as if drunk from my own happiness

Humming some nameless tune, indifferent to my scrutiny

Floating from the flower fields with the golden pollen, not wanting to carry less

My curious gaze held by their slow movement, full of purpose but no evident urgency.

Emerald grass soft as a bed, cushions me deeply

Spongy moss nestles my head, easing me to gentle sleep

As my eyes wonder, drifting with my own thoughts, clouds high above in their heavenly body

Whipped so light they drift effortlessly

Across the wide expanse of blue, sapphire deep

But again I ask, how do I explain in words something so sublime?

To shine in the world almost effortlessly

Is it indeed possible to describe what has stood the test of time?

In all its wonderous simplicity.

Are these not simple pleasures

Being happy with no real reason but feeling it no less?

To have a smile creep across and a sigh escape my lips

Oh, such sweet bliss
