COUGH OF LIFE 2

The Cost of Passion

Love is risky…There are times in our life that thing called love challenges our being. It may even cost us our time, effort and treasures. In extreme circumstances even our lives. Over the top courage and a sincere passion are required in order to propel an individual to perform such a feat. “Nobody can make anybody to do anything unless that somebody expresses a lot of passion to that somebody”. What an endeavor! The mere act of writing and reading it is a challenge enough, more so doing it.

Most of us would rather be in the comfort zone. A place where we can play safe, save our time, effort and treasures. We sometimes are averse to “cross the line”. Because beyond the line lies the unknown…the risks that will cost us great things by expressing our passion, our love. We are afraid that our time will be wasted, efforts become futile and treasures squandered. These fears cripple and immobilize us to the point that we create our own escape hole. An outlet where we will not feel rejected, unwanted or abandoned.

There are times I feel I am inside this hole. At first it seems that it was the best accommodation in the world. Everything in accordance to how I like it, in sync with my idiosyncrasies. No heart ache, no emotional set back, no involvement, no responsibility…no passion. For me it is the safest place to be, a haven for those who have given up the challenges and adversities brought about by this world. No strings attached as we say. In this place nobody will hurt me physically or emotionally. But the tough reality is, life is without meaning if we kept ourselves in this hole. Our humanity is already broken and we need to reach out to one another so that the broken pieces can be picked up again. Involvement with a broken humanity will always cost us something…

Life is like a vapor…here today, gone tomorrow. Time is a luxury but it is not on our side. We can both play safe and live lives without a purpose or a purposeful life that is risky and require our passion. But passion has a cost. It requires us to cross the street, across the highway of life, to where the poorest in spirit and weakest of heart awaits us. I don’t want to be in the hole anymore and it has become dark and gloomy, but I am reminded to take heart because there’s an irony that lots of people are comfortably leaving in this hole, and the passionate should light the torch and shine on to their path. For I know and lest we forget that the greatest expression of love through display of unequal passion is, the Passion of our Christ.

God Bless Everyone!
