A memorial, censored
We, You

We did not see what you saw,
yet we will make for you
from the love you gave, in awe,
a world less askew
and fashion you a pillow
of kudzu, flax, and aloe.

We will build a city enhanced,
where, for you, who danced
on rooftops, bridges, and air,
we too may clearly hear,
deep in the potent night,
blue wind across blue water,
calling for his daughter
from a marvelous, tremulous height.

We did not well assay,
as you did, day upon day,
the length of shore you travelled,
your loved ones by your side,
while light and time unravelled
with the waning of the tide.
