A dangerous affair, the state justice system. A man realizes his worth to the state.
I noticed when I looked at her left ring finger.

She kind of shuffled in her seat, and placed her left hand under the desk. She wasn't married, and she knew that's what I was looking for.

"Why haven't you registered for the anger managment classes yet?" She asked, returning to her stone hard demeanor.

"Listen," I said, using the most pleading and desperate expression I could. "Between paying alimony payments and child support... and the car payment," I owned a Mercedes. "I am just barley able to keep a roof over my head!" I leaned in and softened my expression with a subtle, almost unnoticable smile. "Listen, I'm getting a little extra cash this month. I will for sure be able to get in the class before January. I just need a little more time, please. I've done everything else havent I?"

"And where are you supposed to be getting this money from?"

I leaned back and relaxed. "I'm not going to lie to you, but I'm also not going to answer that."

A hint of a smile came across her face. I was surprised, and aroused. I could see an extremely thin layer of hair down the side of her jaw as light spilled from the corner of the room, over her desk. Her fair skin and thin frame seemed to guide my eyes through her slendor curves. It left me imagining what it would look like just down the seam of her inner thigh. I imagined a little warm, and a little pink, and smooth enough for a man to slide carelessly between her legs, as if her whole body was a winding silk tunnel.

She shook her head and sighed. "Okay, Brandon. I'll give you until the end of the month, you better get your butt in that class, or it's going to be real hard for me to help you out, okay?"

"Thank you so much." I said. "I will not make you regret this."

She toyed with a black pen in her right hand, not saying anything, and after a few moments I broke the silence.

"You know, I hope I'm not out of line or anything, but you are beautiful. Most PO's aren't like you, I mean, you've really been understanding and I appreciate that."

She smothed her hair back with her left hand and looked out the window to the left. She caught a strand and twirled it on her finger, then she looked at me through the corner of her eye.

"Well, I don't want to have to do all that paperwork, so you better stay out of jail."

"You know I feel like I have to repay you, like I mean buy you dinner or something, It's the least I can do.

"I don't think that would be allowed, but thank you Brandon. You're one of my best clients. Most of them don't even show up, or they don't do anything they're supposed to do. I hate it when I have to take a client back to court."

"Well there's gotta be some way I can thank you." I leaned in and lowered my eyelids. She glanced at the open door to her office.

"Well, like I said," She cleared her throat and stood from her seat, smoothing her gray suit jacket at the waist. "Just stay out of jail. You have no business in a place like that." She walked over to the door and leaned on the wall.

I stood up and shuffled reluctantly to the door. I peeked and saw that the receptionist wasn't at her desk. I looked at her. "Listen," I said. "I didn't mean to come off like I was asking you to do something..."

"You didn't," She said quickly. "I mean..."

"Well I..."

"Listen, um..."

"Go ahead."

She thought for a few seconds. "I obviously... can't, I mean, I think you're a good... I have to be..."

I inched my way a little closer to her, until I could smell her apple perfume. "If maybe we were different people, I could tell you exactly what I'm thinking right now."

"Oh," She said weakly. "Well I don't..."

I leaned in and touched her gently on the chin, then I kissed her lips for a long time. She kissed back at the very end, I caught a piece of her protruding bottom lip. I looked at her face as I backed away, her eyes were still closed, and her mouth open only very slightly. I peeked out the office door and the receptionist still wasn't at her desk. I looked back at the P.O and she stood there, looking at me. I moved in for another kiss and this time she pulled me closer. I reached my left hand out and snaged the doorknob. I heard a click as the door secured itself shut and I wrapped her in my arms. We licked eachother and groped eachother as we made our way to her desk. I lifted her body and sat her on the corner of the desk as I began to kiss her cheek and her ears, and her neck. A low growl escaped her throat as I slid my lips down her neck.

I wanted to do it quick, just in case she began having second thoughts. My instincts told me to unfasten her pants as fast as I could, but I couldn't help but take a detour of her breasts. They felt firm against my body, and I had my left hand right on her hip. I began to try and slip a hand up her shirt, but she used her own hand to stop me.

"Wait," she said."

I thought 'crap,' but I said: "What?"

"Oh my God," She pushed me back and slid off the desk, then straightened her top and her pants and her hair. "We...I-I can't do this, I'm sorry I don't know what...I could've been thinking."

I wanted to try and talk her into doing it, but I settled for "It's okay."

She kept apologizing as she walked around her office straightening things and staying away from me. Her hands were shaking, and she pulled her arms firmly down her sides to control it. She took a deep breath and said "I think you shold go."

I thought for a moment. I had a feeling I was going to have to reassure her somehow, just to let her know that I'd be willing to do anything to have sex with her. I didn't want her to be nervous or guilty all day. I wanted her to want to see me again. "Okay," I said. "You're right." I wiped my face with my hands and adjusted my pants. I wanted to move toward her, but she was all the way at the other end of the office. "Can I call you or something..."

"I'll call you," She said as if the words stumbled out of her mouth. "Just, please..." She motioned her hand to the door.

"Alright well call me, okay?"

Her head bobbled up and down like it was propelled by a spring, but her eyes were glued to the floor until I opened the door and left.

I didn't hear from her. Christmas came and passed, so I called to ask about when our next appointment would be. She didn't return the call. I went to the anger managment clinic just after the first of the year, just for safe measure. I signed up for weekly classes and paid out of the nose to cover intake fees and the first class. I got the call just after I woke up.

"Is this Brandon Ford?"

"Uh, yeah," I said groggily.

"This is Diane Bower, with the 16th Judicial District probation department. I've been told to inform you that due to your absence at court on January 3rd, there has been a warrant issued for your arrest. It's my job to advise you to turn yourself over to the court as soon as possible. Do you understand?"

"Wait...What?" I sat up in bed as a chill went down my spine. "Warrant? Court? When was I supposed to be in court? For what? Why did I have court?"

"An advisment hearing on a complaint to revoke your probation."

"REVOKE MY PROBATION!" I wanted to reach through the phone and grab the woman talking by the throat. "Where is my probation officer, Melanie? I've tried to call her, she never told me she was going this far, she..."

"I've been assigned to your case." She inturrupted. "Melanie is no longer your probation officer. You can come in and talk to me, but I suggest you go to court and talk to the judge."

"If I go talk to you, they're gonna take me to jail right off the bat!"

She didn't say anything, so I hung up.

I spent nine months on the run before getting caught urinating in public. Of course when the cops looked up my name, they saw an active warrant and took me to jail. I never spoke with Melanie, she transferred me because of 'personal conflicts' citing my 'aggressive, and sometimes sexually presumptious demeanor. I told the judge what happend, but without her cooberation, there was no proof we ever engaged in innapropriate physical contact. I spent four months in jail before I was released into the custody of William Rolf, a middle aged white man with no patience for a good looking criminal.
