a girl gets embarressed by a jerk
Is it true? Could he really truly want me? Is it a dream? Could it be possible for the most beautiful guy I’ve ever seen to ask me out? There were a million questions and doubts forming in my head as I walked home on that crisp autumn day.
James, the quarterback on the football team, had asked me out. I couldn’t believe it. Guys like that just don’t ask out girls like me. A girl with glasses and braces, with friends no one can remember the name of. Guys just didn’t look our way when we walk in the hallway and now the quarterback asked me out.
I knew it probably wouldn’t end well and that I shouldn’t get my hopes up. But I couldn’t help but hope and dream and walk with a little bounce in my step.
“Hey Lexie!” I heard some yell
I glanced behind me to see my best friend, Alli, running towards me.
“Hey”
“Wanna hang out before the football game? That way I can help you look all pretty for your new boyfriend.” She teased
“Oh be quiet.” I said smiling as I opened the door
I took one step inside and new in an instant my mom was cooking dinner. The house was smelled with the delicious scent of roast beef and freshly baked biscuits. With just one whiff my mouth started to water.
Alli and I both breathed in the delicious scent while we took our coats off and walked to the kitchen
“Oh hi Alli,” my mom said when she saw us “are you going to stay for dinner?”
“Sure Mrs. G”
“Okay dinner will be ready in about a half hour.”
“Ok” we both answered in unison
We started for the stairs to my room, passing my older brother, Jake and his friend, Austin who were watching TV. Neither of them really paid attention to us.
“So what are you going to wear tonight for the game?” Alli asked
“What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?”
“Oh come on it’s a date. You have to put on something half way decent.”
“Fine what do you suggest I wear?”
“How about that cute blue top you wore last week?”

I knew it. I knew it was impossible. I knew it was stupid to think he’d want me. It was stupid to get my hopes up, to even say yes to him. Stupid, just stupid.
I lay in the bed of my favorite pick up truck waiting for Alli. The game was almost over but I didn’t really care. It was all a big joke to him. He never wanted to go out with me. All he wanted was a chance to make fun of me in front of everyone.
I wasn’t as angry at him as I was at myself. I knew it was a very bad idea to say yes and that it would have to end badly. I knew that there was no way a guy could want me.
“Hey” a familiar voice said
I sat up and looked in direction the voice had come
“Austin?” I asked surprise coloring my voice
“Ya I saw what happened back there and I uh just came to see if you were alright.”
“Oh, uh I’m fine. Thanks.” I said forcing a smile
“You don’t look like your fine.” He said coming to sit next to me
“I admit I’ve been better.”
“Ya well James is a jerk. He doesn’t deserve you.”
“Thanks” I said glancing up at him
Our eyes locked and in that one instant I saw everything I ever wanted in a guy. My brother’s best friend was the guy every girl could want. I never really saw him till that night, sitting next to him under the moon.
