A Short Fable
One night l had a dream l was nursemaid to a little boy, an illegitimate son of a husband and wife (l know that makes no sense - it was a dream!). Some visitors came, and l had to keep the boy out of the way, and because he was always hidden, he was scared, so l sat him down and told him the following fable.

When l woke up, l grabbed a pen and paper, and wrote down word for word the story, which is below. I've had some lovely reviews suggesting changes, all of which make sense, but l feel that if l incorporated them, it would change the story from what it was 'meant' to be. lol, the explanation is longer than the story itself!

There was once a king of a great land who was married to a beautiful queen who loved him dearly, but he had been cursed with a great misfortune. If he but stepped off the highest tower in his castle, he would be carried away to rule the greatest kingdom of all, where the Sun Queen lived, and who would love him forever. But if he didn’t, his queen would always be true to him. So every night, he stood at the top of the tallest tower in his castle, but he could never step over the edge because of the love he bore for his wife.

One night, as he stood on the edge of the tower he heard a step behind him, and his wife the queen stood beside him. She took him by the hand, smiled at him, and stepped over the edge, leading him with her. She fell to her death, and he was carried over the seas to the Sun Queen, who fell in love with him and loved him forever.

You see, the king’s wife had also been cursed. She had been cursed to be true to an indecisive man.
