Written after a greyhound bus ride from portland,or to akron,oh.
Strangers
dragging a timeline of themselves
some heavily
folded into the corners of
fourth & burnside outta breath & burdened
Some threw their anchors out all together
& the garbage men grumbling but still rising earlier than anyone…
Feeling like a rope with no weight
Easily tangled in the moments of the day
Learning new curses every time I Trip over myself
Leaving a small galaxy of bruises cluster of cuts
& the question of the century changing from “where’s the blackhole?!” but
“how do I get me one a those!?”

….never understanding anything about gravity
Bound by it,regardless

Only having to look at the lines of a face to know the story
On Thursday I met all my small defeats in the same bar
wouldn’t even buy me a drink
Treated me like a tourist!
On Friday got the first bus going east
Good enough,thought I!
Clever enough,though I!
Quick enough,though I1

…..just before midnight outside a seattle
In a town full of supermarkets with lights illuminating their names
Except some of the letters didn’t have lights anymore
& some of the doors never opened during the day…
Saw a man who at first judgement was a bum but
If I had stayed to chat he might’ve introduced himself as jesus
CHRIST!where could he be going…

Came home to find I left the faucet on
& the well had run dry
After flooding my house
-no,no, this is completely unlivable
& haphazardly hm, I mean subconsciously, grew myself new tail
While I was busy recoiling my rope
Picking off seaweed, hoping the new weight meant a mermaid
On the end

Fed up with big dreams
Had to call my little brothers to roll me into the kitchen
( I mean, my eyes were always bigger than my stomach)
I cooked up a few more
But ones small & mobile I can just slip into
My back pocket for little snacks
On my run back west
But about this tail
I don’t know…
Maybe I should see a doctor
