Inspired by Allan Jackson's "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?"
He Loved Her

not too long ago. not too far away.
a boy liked a girl. didn't know what to say.
with pretty long red hair and freckles on her cheeks
she could feel his stare. she could see him wink.

and oh how he liked he from her head down to her toes
and no matter what she'd hear, he was too young to propose

He went off to the war and wrote her every day.
"Hey, honey, how are you? Not really much to say."

And oh how he missed her from her head down to her toes
and everytime he'd write her, he could never...really ... propose

They finally sent him home with medals on his chest
With his uniform on at church, he always look the best

He went back to her house and talked a long, long time
to her dad who gave his blessing, he said, "She's gonna be mine!"

he took her out to dinner...candels and all the rest
he felt just like a hero! Her ring next to his chest.

He got down on one knee and she got tearry-eyed
he gave her a diamond ring. She was so happy, she cried.

And, oh how she loved him more than for the medals on his chest.
And she knelt down in front of him...and said yes.
