Sonnet, Young Love
There she sat beneath the weeping willow.
Her chestnut hair danced all around her face,
And from a distance watched a boy with no
Idea of girls with all their frills and lace.
But everyday he watched the wispy girl
Stretched out upon a blanket in the shade.
Around her leaves would catch the wind and twirl.
The sunlight through the leaves would slowly fade.
He’d perch within the branches of a tree
Wondering if she was the girl of his dreams,
But he was scared and would forever be
A prisoner to his low self-esteem.
Tomorrow he’ll return to watch this girl,
His lovely, unattainable, bright pearl.
