meeting at Auschwitzs

In Unison we reached for the massive door which refused to budge. I held her hand and could feel the tension. She was thin, frail and aged beyond her years. We passed through the gates at the camp, seeing guards with dogs moving groups of people like herds of sheep. We found shelter from the bitter cold wind and talked about our unwanted trip. It was a long cold ride on a train with too many bodies packed in open box cars. It was our second day with out food, we quenched our thrust with the falling snow.

My new friend was Rebecca from a small village near Berlin, We passed away the hours reminiscing of better times. Some times during the night the guards came around and separated us. The following day I was put to work digging a large pit at the edge of camp. When we finished that chore a large truck with a dump bead backed up to the pit. The truck bed raised slowly dumping nude bodies as we watched in disbelief. The last body caught on the tail gate.

I reached up to release it and bid Rebecca goodbye. Returning to camp I asked a worker where we were, he didn't know but said they called it Auschwitz
