query letter for Shadows
Dear Mystic:

Today, many are calling the fresh out of school graduates of undergraduate or graduate programs the Lost Generation. Many of them cannot find jobs or are settling for positions far below their expectations. In the book, the Lost Generation, we follow Hannah, a tough, bitter, law school graduate struggling to find a job. Although she is depressed by her situation, she in some ways is happy to be free from the “golden handcuffs” worn by her friends who were able to get subpar, corporate jobs in the economy. She experiences a rebirth and begins a life as an entrepreneur and writer. I have chosen an excerpt that shows Hannah struggling with the disappointments and humiliation, the sense she has that everyone has abandoned her, basically the rock bottom of her journey.

The reader will identify with Hannah’s story. Many of us are experiencing or know someone experiencing the shattered vision shared by the Lost Generation, the startling acknowledgement that we might quite possibly have worse fates than our parents. Our generation will rebuild its confidence by pursuing its own dreams and not those of our parents. This book is about freedom, and the fears that inevitably follow. It is sure to inspire many.

I have read your publications, and the message of hope, personal transformations, and rebirth is often communicated to your readers. This story is sure to inspire your diverse audience as it transcends gender, age group, and background, much in the same way that the economic crisis has as well. It is separated into 12 chapters, interweaving news events that are occurring in real life, with those of the fictional characters struggling in finding their way in this changing world.
