This is a story is about a young girl who has lost her memory.
My name is Alexandra Lynn. I do not like the longer version of my name, so please call me Alex.  I’ve been wandering through this forsaken old town for a while in search of something in particular; a ring. It gave the owner the power to control the five elements; fire, water, earth, air, and spirit. An evil force is searching for this piece of jewelry at the same time as me. I had to find it before they could get their greedy hands onto this powerful ring and destroy all of humanity. They want to control the humans and destroy their race. There’s a minor problem that I have to deal with…I do not know who I am fighting against. The clouds above my head are releasing little droplets of rain onto my long black hair, causing it to stick to my face. I run along the abandoned streets, searching for an empty place that I could stay the night in. There’s a small apartment building that did not have any lights on.  I knock on the door, just to be on the safe side. After a few moments of silence, I kick the door down and walk myself inside. Once inside, I pull out my extra set of clothing that were in the little black sack that I was carrying. I begin to strip off my leather jacket and shirt, when there was a loud banging sound coming from further down the hallway. I leave my white tank top on and drop the jacket to the floor softly, so I do not disturb the creature living in this desolate building.  To Leaving the jacket off of my body made it easier for me to defend myself if it was needed. I walk quietly down the dismal hallway to find out what had caused the mysterious noise. I open the first door on the left to find absolutely nothing but darkness. I decide to leave the door open so I could remember that the room may have some edible food hidden in the rotting wooden cabinets. I saunter further down the hall and repeat the same process on the other rooms. I allow the tension to release from my body and relax a little. At that very moment the door at the end of the hallway swings open and a large dark form flies toward me. It pushes me to the dark wooden floors; keeping me pinned. The creature pressed some type of serrated blade against my neck. I squirm around as much as the creature was going to allow me to and eventually I am able to push the dark body off of me. I take the blade that is strapped to my upper thigh and slice a deep cut into the demon’s cheek. The slice caused its anger to sky rocket. The creature swings its arm around, causing me to lose the grip on my blade and fling it to the other side of the room.  He shoves me into the wall and throws his own blade directly into my shoulder. My vision suddenly became extremely blurry. I take the creature’s knife from my shoulder; biting my lip to relieve some of the pain. A small amount of blood is trickling down my chin from my bite. It charges toward me; it’s razor sharp teeth ready to tear me apart. I hold the knife up, waiting for the creature to get within distance so that I have the chance throw its blade back at it. It did not take longer for a millisecond for it to get close enough. Its lifeless body shrinks into a pile of ashes. Air from an open window, miraculously blows the remains out the window, leaving no evidence of our fight except for my own bleeding body. The moment the monster was gone, I allow myself to slide down the wall; trying to catch my breath. I feel so tired, but I know if I slept I probably would not wake up. My eyelids grew heavier as the seconds tick by. A tall dark figure walks through the door that I had knocked down when entering this apartment building. He sees me and walks toward me. I could not move any part of my body to protect myself from him. He leans down and picks me up. He carries me out; that’s when everything went black. I awoke the next morning with a throbbing headache. I could not remember anything from the moment after the demon threw his knife into my shoulder. There was a young man, close to the age of seventeen, sleeping in a chair that is next to the bed I am in. His black hair was slightly messy; he must have had a rough night. He’s wearing jeans that are tighter than what the average teenage boy would prefer to wear. He also had on a black shirt that had some type of symbol printed on the front. He actually looked kind of cute when sleeping. One of his eyes opened, revealing his emerald colored irises. My jaw was slightly ajar as we made eye contact. He sits up straighter and broke out staring contest by looking out the window that seems to be next to me. I followed his gaze to see a delicate blue jay sitting on the window sill, bathing in the sunlight. All I want at this moment is to have this headache go away! I sit up and catch the eye of the kid again I try to get out of bed too quickly and he ran to my side, instantly. I soon realized why…I was extremely dizzy and could not stand without his help. I took the glass of water that was on a table and sipped some. The liquid touched my tongue and a large amount of flavors exploded throughout my mouth. It started with a delicious fruit flavor; banana and orange combined, and then switched the homemade brownies. These weren’t just any brownies; they were the brownies that my dead mother used to make. The thought made me sad but I could not let the guy see the most hurtful memory written all over my face. I liked the water so much that I began to chug the remaining water; getting the most of my mother’s brownies. The guy grabs the glass from my hands, spilling most it on the floor. “Hey! That’s a waste of—“

“Too much of this could easily kill you.” He said.

“What is it?” I asked, annoyed because he took the most delicious water away from me.

“It’s a special drink that has many hazardous chemicals.”

“And you let me drink it?!” I yelled as I desperately tried to find some real water before the chemicals burned a hole in my stomach.

“Relax, in large quantities it can kill. In smaller doses it can cure almost anything.”

I sit down on the bed and he joined me. I glare at him as I ask, “What is your name?”

“My name is Nickolas Kain. What is yours…little one?” He smiles a knowing smile. I got angry. No one can call me short, especially some stranger that I just met. I may be short, but I could easily kick his ass. I stand up and give him the worst glare I could, hands on hips and all. “Do NOT call me little, short, midget, or anything along those lines.” I growl. His lips part ever so slightly and rise into a crooked grin.

“Don’t expect me to give you my apologies.”

“Do not expect me to allow you to call me such names and get away with it.” I throw my whole body against him; knocking him to the carpeted floors. I pull the hidden switchblade from my bra and press it against his neck.

“Oh, that’s kinky.” He smiles again. I pull the blade back and slice open his eyebrow. His smile faded into something that seemed far more dangerous. He grabs my wrist tightly and pulls the switchblade from my hand. He throws it behind him; breaking the window and losing my switchblade forever. He sits on my stomach, while having his hands holding mine down.

“Are you done yet?” He looks me right in the eye. He has blood trailing down the side of his face from my handiwork. After many minutes of staring at each other, someone opens the door.

“Nickolas, this is no time for play! We need you to keep an eye out for anymore of those creatures. She also needs to be fully healthy, so that I can record what happened to her in the journal.” The man who had opened the door left and walked down the hallway. Nickolas gets off of me and holds out his hand to offer me assistance. “I do not need your help.” I glare at him. He grabs my hand anyway and pulls me close to his hard body. I was surprised at the heat that is radiating from his presence. I do not know why I did not notice it before. The color of his eyes also distracted me from my current thoughts.

“Your eyes are so beautiful. I love the color.” He shakes his head. “Sorry I was talking to myself. It happens a lot lately. Will you stop being so stubborn for once and listen to what other people are telling you to do, Alex.”

I stare at him in surprise. “How did you know my name?”

“Let’s just say that they people living in this building aren’t exactly normal.” He smiles.

“Nickolas, that’s enough! I’ll tell her when she’s ready. Follow me.” He glances at me and walks out the door again. I look up at Nickolas for more information.

“His name is Matt, but everyone calls him Old Man.” That seems a little ironic considering Matt did not seem much older than me. He looks like he may be about twenty-three…maybe. Nickolas still had my hand in his. His grip tightens, but he tugs on it gently. He leads me down the hallway to the only open door. When we walk in, Matt was sitting at a desk with a notebook and pen in hand.

“Okay, Miss. Ai.” He looks at me expectantly.

“Maybe you should answer some of her questions first, Old Man.”

Matt sighs. “Alright, Alex. Ask away.”

“What is the name of that demon that attacked me last night?” I asked. Matt shakes his head.

“That incident happened three days ago.” My eyes widen as I stare at him.

“The animal that attacked you was a Kepher. You’re lucky that you’re even alive.”

“Will you explain to me what the hell a Kepher is?!” I say irritated.

“They are mainly strong demons that have no source of self-defense. The only weapon that they have is the blade that is covered in poison. It’s highly unusual that someone as young as you even survived at all. A small amount of that poison leaked into your body when it, I’m assuming, hit your shoulder. There is only one way to kill them and you easily figured that out for yourself.” He stops waiting for me to answer him.

“They can be killed by their own poisoned blade.”

“That’s correct, Alex. Now all we have to figure out is why they even bothered to try and kill you. They aren’t smart enough to do anything but take orders from others who have enough power to control their kind.”

After hearing this, Nickolas comes up behind me and lays his hands on my upper arms. “So, someone with a lot of power wants to get rid of her, but for what reason?”

Matt nods, his brown straight hair shaking in time with his head. “May, I ask my questions, Alex?”

I move away from Nickolas and sit in a nearby chair.

“I already know a lot about you, Alex.”

“Oh really? Like what?” Matt and Nickolas smirk at the same time. “We know that you name is Alexandra Lynn Ai, you’ve been on your own for the past two years because your parents died—“  I stand up, walk across the room, and slap Matt and Nickolas on the cheeks. “That kind of personal information is none of your business. I understand that you are gathering research for something that is also none of my business.  I plan on keeping this completely professional and not getting on a personal level.”I walk back to my chair and sit down crossing my legs.

“You are completely right, Alex. I’m sorry and I also want this to only be professional as well.”

‘After you are done asking your questions, I am going to leave and I don’t plan on coming back.”

“Alex, we can’t allow you to go back into the wild. Someone is trying to kill you and we don’t like letting something happen when we can easily prevent it. Now may I continue with my research?”

I nod.

“What were you doing in that apartment building three days ago?”
