A tale of lost love.
The sunlight shines off of the sand like pearls scattered amongst the fragile earth. The wind sweeps in from the tide, as it twists the smooth fabric of your dress tight against your body. You dance along the shore with your arms held wide, and your eyes lost in the morning sky. The smell of the ocean intertwines with your perfume to create an intoxicating blend.

I trace your foot prints in the wet sand, trying to follow as I stumble between steps. The wave hits the break, and floods across our feet. The water turns into a coat of white, as it soaks into the sand. I watch as your arms glide through the air like a conductor’s-each a beat to a masterpiece. As you look back, your hair falls to your face. You hold out your hand. I reach out mine, and for a brief second our fingertips meet. And in this moment I know I will be lost without you. And in this moment I am lost within you. But in this chaotic dance, our hands begin to slide, and I lose your touch.

I fall into the softened sand, with the undertow wrapping around me. Your silhouette is stretched across the horizon, but drifting around the bend of this world. I let the tide roll around my body, hoping I will become weightless. As I watch your footprints fade with each passing wave, I struggle to find my own footing. Twilight settles to starlight, and I begin the dance again.
