Life is full of choices. Some are irreversible...
After reading the reviews i've gotten for this piece, i've decided to expand it to include the man's story and add a little more to the boy's.

On one street is a man killed in a violent homicide
On another is a boy contemplating death by suicide

The man witnessed something
He was not suppose to see
And decided to help,
In a move of bravery

He tried to stop the act
Was it heroics or insanity?
Tried to stop the violent crime,
The reduction of humanity

He shouts into the air
and is rewarded by another act of desecration:
A knife wound in the chest,
The ultimate form of termination

On the other side of the city
The boy walks slowly to his car
He looks up to the sky
Where he sees a single star

“You and me, we’re the same
With no one there, we’re all alone
With no one to stand next to us
As we look upon all that’s unknown”

His mom could lose her job,
And his best friend has passed away,
Another friend has left him
His whole life’s in disarray

He’s tired of waiting
When he knows that hope is lost
When he comes to the realization
That life’s just not worth the cost

Not worth the price he’s paid,
Not worth having to pretend
That he cannot see through their lies
When they act like he’s their friend

Because nothing’s as it appears to be,
Nothing’s as it seems,
And no one’s there to hear them
His silent but echoing screams…
