How do any of us look back at our lives and truely gain solace in what we have done?
Like a cycle of despair, the wheels of time spin slowly round.
Ghosts of glorious moments past slip noiselessly between desperate fingers,
grasping futilely for but another chance at fulfillment.
Neither caught nor captured dreams of happiness fade away,
only to return with burning condemnation,
taunting and mocking with samples of satisfaction.
Lives fulfilled and complete are crushed and broken in but a moment.
Happiness comes and goes like a wave on the shore.
As inevitable as the tide receding down to the depths
so is happiness sure to retreat.
Happiness is like a leaf in the wind,
fluttering for but a second before it is rushed away,
replaced by the howling of despair and rejection.
A feeling, a hope, a guise, instilled by passion or success,
soon fades leaving nothing but sorrow and misery.
Is there any solace to be found on this earth?
Pure happiness and comfort are far from obtainable.
Is it any wonder we look to above, to quiet our restless souls?
For what is life lived in the pursuit of happiness?
