Short Short: a group of friends lost on the road and a snipped into their day
                                                          A Long Road Trip

“We’re lost aren’t we?” she turned her whole body towards me so that I couldn’t pretend not to hear her.

“No,” I replied quietly. She rolled her eyes and folded her arms across her chest as she slammed back into her seat.

She knows I’m lying, but why ask if you already know the answer? I hate when she does this shit. I mean, just because I don’t know where we are at the moment does not mean we’re lost.

What a bitch.

My face began to redden with anger as I thought the words I would never speak. I had to calm down.

“Why the hell are you so red?” she spat at me as we passed the same stupid gas station a third time.

Joey sat in the back watching her, cowering. ‘Pussy,’ I thought looking at him through the rearview mirror.

“It’s hot.” I lied. To emphasize my point I turned on the air conditioning.

“Are you fucking crazy?! Who has money to waste because your stupid ass is ‘hot,’” she put up air quotes mocking me.

“Look, it’s my car; I can turn the air on if I want to!” I yelled back at her. God I hate when she’s like this. Just because she’s beautiful she thinks men are supposed to bend over backwards for her. Whatever bitch!

“But, it’s my fucking gas you’re burning. Let the window down if you’re hot!” She turned off the air and huffed in frustration.

“You know, she’s got a point, Jay.” Joey’s sad grey eyes looked at me through the rearview.

Are you serious?! I really need him to grow some balls. Ever since we were kids he always did whatever Lizza said. Don’t let Jay borrow your homework, Joey. Don’t tell Jay the answers, Joey. Don’t let Jay spend the night, Joey. Braid my hair, Joey. Be my model, Joey. Hold my purse, Joey. Buy me pads, Joey. Don’t date my friend, Joey. She controls him in her sleep. He’s so much of a push over that he told her about that chick in Palm Beach when I made him promise he would tell her. I mean, I know he’s her brother, but he broke the code.

“Who fucking asked you, Joey!!?”  I retorted in anger. I turned the air conditioning back on. Joey looked around franticly trying to recover from my harsh words.

“I was just saying, no need to yell,” he whimpered sitting back in his seat staring out the dark rumbling clouds.

“Whatever.” He’d get over it, he always did. Anyway, he deserved it for taking her side. How dare she tell me what I can do in my car?

“Look, Lizza if I want the fucking air on I will. This is my fucking car and you will not tell me what I can and cannot do in it. So, sit there and shut the hell up.” That was liberating. I finally told Lizza what I’d been thinking after listening to her bitch for four hours.

Surprisingly, my eyes were not ripped out of my face, like I expected. She sat there staring at me, arms folded. I could see the steam coming out of her ears, but she didn’t speak. I didn’t know if I was relieved or scared. Lizza has never actually listened before.

When I finally found the entrance to the interstate I glanced over at her. I was greeted by her hazel grey eyes and a tight mouth. I should have been worried but it actually turned me on.

I smiled. She snorted like a bull ready to charge.

Every so often I would glance at her, watch her smooshed together breast rise and fall as she boiled with anger. I had a familiar look on my face, one she recognized immediately. Her face changed instantly from anger to satisfaction. Her tight lips loosened and smirked. She gave me this look. The look I wasn’t ready for. The ‘NO WAY’ look.

My momentary victory was short lived. She had won, as always. She had a better hand and played it well. No matter how much of a bitch she was, I still wanted to do her and she knew it. With a glint of victory in her eyes, she reached out a delicate hand and turned off the air.
