Wrote this about the little I know that happens and goes on with those in the military.
His grip is tight, as he is shaking inside
Fear is an emotion he was trained to hide
He hears a faint command, as shots are fired
Pushing himself to move quickly, even though he is tired
Day-in and day-out with barely any sleep
MREs(Meals Ready to Eat) are the closes thing to a home cooked meal he'll eat
Dirt, blood, and sweat stain his weary body
As he'll do anything just for a five minute break to rest his feet
Pictures and letters from her, he holds close to his heart
While he counts down the days til they are no longer oceans apart
Missions are getting tougher and he can only hope and pray
That all his buddies and him will make it back okay
Not knowing what they'll face when they turn the corner or their backs
Holding their breath, they knock down doors of homes and shacks
Hoping they won't have to open fire, he grips tightly as he is shaking inside
He hears a faint command, as shots are soon fired
In one split moment it's all over
Gripping his picture, he finally comes to a rest he longed for, and is no longer tired.
