Young love interrupted by war.
                                                  Interrupted

He left angry
And I was scared
Scared to lose him
Scared of never seeing him again.

The day was a storm when the troops marched away
My love was with them
Our eyes met and he waved
I patted my heart
And my love did the same
Marching by, calling out my name.

The war of North and South has parted us
Interrupting our dearms of marriage and babies
Of a farm of our own, with horses to ride
Hardwork all the week, church on Sunday
Picnics beaneath the willow by the creek
Sweet, stolen kisses in the sun.

Where is my love as I sit and sew
In a trench in the mud
Dodging bullets and canon ball fire
Are his limbs intact
Can his eyes still see
And is his mind yet whole
Would he recognize me?

Everyday I kneel
Everyday I pray
That the troops will return
That today will be the day.

I dream our eyes will meet
And that I will see him wave
Then I will pat my heart
And my love will do the same.
