Reflection on a dead city

Far below the mountain's top.
where the wealthy cities lie.
All the world came to a stop
when the careless had to die.
Who was there to hear them cry?
when that mountain broke their trust?
The fortunate who breathed a sigh,
When Pompeii lay in dust.

The city and her wealthy twin,
were ravaged and torn asunder.
Were they punished for some wretched sin?
The living had to wonder
Ashes, grief, and the city lay under,
encased in lava's crust.
The price too high for a violent blunder.
When Pompeii lay in dust.

In the foothills, beneath the ash,
thousands of years have gone by.
We look for clues into the past,
beneath Vesuvius' watchful eye.
Her misshapen peak scrapes the sky,
we satisfy a lust,
for treasures lost to Vesuvius' blast
When Pompeii lay in dust.

Beware the dogs, Cave Canam,
Watch and listen, this is a must!
The temples speak, you will hear them,
where Pompeii lay in dust.
