In Japan, soldiers taken as PoWs are told suicide is more honorable than imprisonment.
The Glorious Death

In America and in Europe,

there is spitefulness and war.

There is hate and there is evil ,

and greed to the core.

They told us if we’re imprisoned,

there’s only one thing to do

said it's better to take one’s life

Than it being taken from you.

So Oka-san and Oto-san,

Mother and Father, dear

I went to war to bring us honor,

I was gone for just one year.

Maybe you didn't know it yet,

they probably didn't say,

But on June 7, of '42,

America attacked Midway.

We fought hard, as hard as we could;

We gave it all we've got

But we failed, in war and retreat,

I only had one shot.

Mother, Father, don't be angry ,

or sad I've said goodbye.

I died with courage, I died with pride,

I died the gyokusai
