The last leaf of the season refusing to fall.
The Last Leaf
Words: 320

A lone leaf hangs from a tree that leans over a stream in my backyard. I look at the leaf everyday and wonder why it has not fallen yet. Is it trying to defy mother nature or is it afraid of the stream below?

The green on the leaf has been fading for the last few days. The wind has been picking up lately also. Is mother nature trying to force the leaf to fall? That night I saw the branches on the tree bending due to the wind. As I turned out the light I was convinced the leaf will be gone in the morning. But as I woke I was shocked to see the leaf still holding on.

Rain started coming down as I ate breakfast. The stream started to form waves. To me it seemed like the waves were trying to reach the remaining leaf. The waves were not even coming close to it. I decided to take some photos of the leaf in its struggle.

The wind and rain picked up so I was unable to take any photos from outside but I did take a few from the back porch. During the night I heard the wind howl and the rain pelt the windows. Tonight I was hoping the leaf would be remaining in the morning. As I woke I was happy to see the leaf still there.

The rain has almost stopped so I grabbed my camera. As I walked to the tree I notice the leaf starting to shake. So I started to take photos of it. As I clicked away the leaf stated to fall towards the stream. The leaf landed in the water and started to move down the stream. I still took pictures of the leaf until it was out of site. After all of the wind and rain the leaf finally fell under a rainbow that formed over head.
