The suffocating blanket of silence
Silence chokes,
crowding my senses as empty rooms lie in wait
devoid of sound or presence,
every subtle change echoes gaining in magnitude
so that silence begets nightmares in the dark.

Empty houses make not so empty threats,
to ones sanity and the threat of invasion forms in the night,
as the sun goes down and the house moans and creaks as it settles,
fear sets in, the fear only a girl alone can know.

So silence, I choke you back,
filling the house with music, TV and film.
Distracting the mind with books to sleep at night.
Of the day all will be forgotten and noise and action are to be found outside.
As inside silence reigns and lies in wait for the sun to set once more
and all begins again.
