title refers to words thought but not said
I sit here waiting alone and lonely,
Another night with a cold pillow beside me.
It is not what I used to imagine,
It is not what my dreams were made of.

When I was a girl I wished for you,
I hoped and prayed that you would be mine.
I knew not your name or how you looked,
I wanted a superhero of my very own.

As I grew, so did my hopes,
I wanted not a hero but a man.
To love, to hold, to dream with,
To call my soul mate and cherish.

And now I have love,
Although not the way I had planned.
It has been a step learning curve,
But I am getting there slowly.

Stopping the expectations is difficult,
But I must make my heart understand.
You have your job and your friends,
Your gym membership and your freedom.

And here I wait for you to arrive,
Late from another engagement.
Meal cooked, uniform ironed,
You won’t stay long, work beckons.

I struggle to follow your next endeavour,
And wonder endlessly at my usefulness.
Yet there is a schedule to complete,
Tasks to be done so you can vanish again.

No this is not what I had imagined,
And maybe I could walk away unscathed.
Only the heart wont let go,
And so sit waiting, alone and lonely...

Waiting for you to need me again.
