In a world of orphanages, adoptions centres, foster homes ... one can find love.
This sand pit is the only world this child has ever known
This sand pit is a friendly place where this child plays all alone
A bucket, spade, a sand castle. Its a place he calls his own
Behind the walls of this orphanage. This is his own true home.

Little Boy Blue. His jeans are cuffed and yet he wears no shoes
Other children play in groups of six, or fours or even twos.
But this little boy who plays alone and keeps to his own views
Gives so little and takes much less; for he's nothing left to lose.

Under indigo skies, the sand is damp and in it he can see
Wondrous things to make and do, it's a place where he is free
To dream of places he will go, become the man he wants to be
When they open the gates of this orphanage - still; someone has the key.

In his dream is a sand castle. Its a home perched on the bay
Where trees and flowers are abundant, where birds come out to play
Where people aren't there to tell him now; what to do or say
Its where he can run, or dream, or stroll, until the close of day.

There's a little girl here whose dress is pink, it's left sleeve has been torn
She knows the walls, the trees, the sand and has since she was born
She walks alone, she has no friends and at six, she's so forlorn
A saddened sight, she cries in sleep until the break of dawn.

In her heart there lives a dream, and every day it burns
A hole into her reveries and in make believe she yearns
To stand upon the bridge of time and that someone will discern
The love she craves and needs to give with life's lessons to be learned.

She watches as the boy in jeans plays without a sound
He never talks, he doesn't laugh, his thoughts are freedom bound
As he sits within his solitude, sand on him, all around
She knows as she approaches him, he'll be the friend she's never found.

One afternoon, her arms akimbo, she's in her world of make believe
She shares her dreams, her hopes, her thoughts, her private reveries
He smiles, he laughs then holds her hand as they walk through autumn leaves
He knows she's there, his special friend who can also share his dreams.

And slowly, as the years roll by, he bestows his very soul
Together they live their lives alone. Together they are whole.
Their days are warm with discovery, their nights are never cold
And the orphanage gates are now flung wide. They share a common goal.

Forced into a world they've never known; with hopes and dreams they flee
The only home they've known but now these two are free
To go to places, see the world, be where they've never been
To do the things they've never done; see things they've never seen.

He discovers love anew and for the first time in his life
She has much to give him now. She'll be a mother and a wife.
He sees her as his past, his future and his golden light
She knows that he was meant for her and she knows the time is right.

They go to church, upon her finger, he places a wedding band
They build a home, a dream for two upon this verdant land.
The years have passed them fleetingly amd they walk here hand in hand
Their dreams are answered, their hearts are full ... no more castles in the sand.
