Love is tough. Lots fall, others push them.
Sometimes, I don’t know if you’re building me up
Or tearing me down
Because they’ve started to look the same
From where I’m standing.
If I don’t know who I am by now,
How can you know me so well?
I’m a swinging door
Going back and forth
And I’m never closed,
Never closer than I am chasing my dream.
I’m sinking, didn’t you know?
It was at your hand that I fell,
I think.
You’re a bad mystery novel
That never resolves
And I’m the losing lady
Who just flatly falls over and over again.
Wishes pushed me back when I was
Never moving forward because
Someone tied me down,
Locked me up,
And threw away the key.
But I didn’t see their face
So I’ve always hoped it wasn’t you
And I dream about it every night.
Someday I’ll see myself
And it’ll all click somehow
But now I think I need someone to hold me
Even if they’re poisonous.
Sometimes I don’t know if you’re building me up
Or tearing me down
Because they’re starting to look the same
From where I’m standing.
