first draft of a poem
weird little world
by: becky ramgren

paraphrase of a line from the movie "good will hunting"
"the little idiosyncrasies - people call them imperfections - but they're not - and we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds."

so who do i let in
to my weird little world?

are they forced in?
or pushed in?
or do they want to come in?

does it come with time?
if i spend enough time
with someone
are they automatically let in?

i don't think so.

there are people
i've known for a long time
who aren't welcome
in my weird little world.

do some people
just get me?

and i don't have to open my doors
or say
come on in -

they're already in.

they've paid attention
to those little things
that make me
me.

and they stay.

maybe they even like it
in my weird little world.

and to those people i say
thank you
for being my friend.

a true friend -
the kind of friend who
makes me a better me.
the kind of friend to whom
i feel connected.
the kind of friend who
has become a part of me.

and to those people i say
thank you,
and welcome,
and please make yourself comfortable

in my weird little world.
