The House.
The House.

The house looks like any ordinary three story house from the outside, but the inside is very different. In fact, the inside is where all the weird things will happen. The house is settled downtown right on the harbor. It has a deck that overlooks the water, and many windows.

As I walk inside, the first floor looks as normal as any house. It has a kitchen, dining room, living room, a couple of bedrooms, and a couple of bathrooms. The second and third floors however, are very much different. They are where the house ceases to be a normal structure. They are where the house becomes something unique. It is on the second and third floors where I will find myself in trouble. If you're not careful, they can turn everything upside down.

As I walk up the stairs to the second floor, I notice that it has many, many rooms and hallways that seem like a maze. This is the tricky part. This is where if you're not careful you could get turned around. Every corner I turn is another hallway. Each hallway lined with doors on both sides. I go into several rooms. Many rooms are bedrooms. Some rooms are empty. Others simply look like someone had fun with a sledgehammer. Broken furniture piled in the corners, plaster falling from the ceiling, and big holes in the walls. Filthy, dirty, I want nothing to do with them. The bedrooms all look the same. Elaborate beds and furniture that look like the belong in a castle.

I continue to walk the halls until I eventually find a staircase that leads up to the third floor. I go up, but only to see the same things. The third floor is basically identical to the second floor. The same hallways, the same bedrooms, the same elaborate decorations. Not satisfied, I decide it's time to leave this house, but something is wrong. Every hallway I go down just turns into another. I can't find the staircase that leads down. Hours pass, and yet I continue to go up and down the same halls. I'm beginning to think that I should have put a large piece of cheese at the first staircase because I feel like a rat in a maze. I eventually find the staircase leading down to the second floor, but spend another few hours doing the same thing I did on the third floor. Frustrated, I decide to go back up in hopes of finding another way out.

This is starting to get a little bit ridiculous now. Hallway after hallway, the end seems to be nowhere in sight. I go into more rooms in hopes that something different will present itself. I go into one room and sit down on the bed. As I am resting, I notice something that looks a little off. It looks as if there are two walls on one side of the room. I walk over on on the other side of the first wall is another staircase leading up. What? A fourth floor? The house is starting to resemble a combination of a castle and a pyramid, but you wouldn't know it from the outside. I go up the stairs to find a door. I open the door and enter a solitary bedroom. This bedroom is different from the rest. It has a bed and a table next to the bed which has a small television on it. It has the appearance of where Dracula would sleep, but without the coffin. There is a lone window above the bed, and as I look out I can see people on the street below. My yells go unanswered as they cannot hear me, and the window will not open. Weary, I decide to lay down. Perhaps sleep will recharge me enough to make another attempt to find the way out.

The television stays on all the time. There is no on/off button, and every channel is the same. It's a simple fireplace burning like one you would see at Christmas time. I try to change the channel, but they are all the same. As I lay on the bed I start to hear some crackling sounds. I look over to see on the television some glowing orbs of light flying into the fireplace. They crackle and pop as they hit the flames. More and more orbs start to fly towards the flames, until eventually there seem to be hundreds. It sounds like a popcorn machine. The noise becomes defining, and the volume does not work. Then out of nowhere, they stop. What the hell kind of house is this? Weak and weary, the bed feels so comforting. As time goes by I start to drift off into sleep, but somehow cannot fall fully asleep. I hear a noise from the left of me, and then a cold chill blows over the bed. As I lay there the blankets start to move next to me. They lift up as if someone else was getting into bed. I'm frozen in fear as what appears to be an invisible body lying next to me. All of a sudden I hear a loud, growling, gurgling sound. This room, this house is clearly haunted. I get up and run to the door, throw it open and hurry down the stairs and stop dead in my tracks. The hallways are all gone except for one that leads to a staircase leading down. When I reach the second floor I see the same thing, a single hallway leading to another staircase. I finally make it back to the first floor. How the hell am I ever going to be able to live in this house now? Only time will tell.
