"Lace cannot keep the chill away.."

Haunted Streets

The leaves move, dance, create
haunted streets, empty wind filled with so much unspoken
lace cannot keep the chill away
when blankets are what is needed
lace cannot protect the skin
when scars adorn it
dead butterflies litter the streets
frozen by the crisp, sweet wind
entropy has been left behind to the summer sun
the sun is not setting, a shadow is cast
and entropy has disappeared along with those who once lined
these empty haunted streets
chills that sound like fall
place icy hands on my back
I cannot remember how many seconds
there are in a minute
and echoes from past happiness
make me confused, shaky

The pale clouds send rain
it freezes on my skin, my scars
my lace has become cold
lace once protecting, now exposing
can I find lovely things about winter
is there any warmth that graces fall
only the colors, only the promise of spring
the promise of life, one day
the promise of breath and hope

The leaves move, dance, create
haunted streets, empty wind filled with so much unspoken
lace cannot keep the chill away
when blankets are what is needed..
