"You smoke darkness in cheap cigarettes, and swallow it in a hundred pretty pills."

Lipstick and Lies

Souls are too beautiful to die forever

that's how I know you're going to heaven

even though you're addicted to hell.

you wear darkness as a make-up
in the form of eyeshadowed empty eyes
and alcohol flavored lipstick
you smoke darkness in cheap cigarettes
and swallow it in a hundred pretty pills

I look at you with cynical tearfilled eyes
and think it's such an insane wonder
that you have not yet been buried
in the ground that it should but I doubt
will take you sixty more years to reach

There is a picture waiting for reality in my pen
of you with scars too deep to heal
and a face aged beyond recognition
when you are still so very young

the excuses you made started out tiny babies
but evolved into a grand canyon
of abandoned friends and a glued-on blindfold
one I have little faith that you will ever take off

loved ones, stangers, follow after you closely
why couldn't you have locked the gate behind you?
will you please come back,
and place your face on the metal bars of the gate
to warn them of what they could become?

tell them not to become you
to not take candy from the devil
made from a recipe of lies and denial
tell them His love is all they need
and that darkness only cures for so long.

I'll be waiting here in the corner
watching, seeing
won't you wake up, darling?
falling in love with the light
will dissolve your sadness and agony
for the rest of the life
that you could doubtlessly choose to live.
