A poem about people in my life changing.
It's kind of sad,
But sadly true,
When people you know
become people you knew.
Sometimes they literally end up gone.
Some move away, some move on.
But others you see from day to day,
And you wonder what part of them went away.
You see them standing in front of you,
But you can't see the person you thought you knew.
Can people really change that much?
Is it outward appearance, looks and such?
I think deep down, memories are locked away.
I think deep down, the person you love will stay.
Because you can fool the world and all who are in it,
But you can't fool your past because others have lived it.
You can choose to see the snotty girl,
Or remember the one who loved to dance and twirl.
You can choose to see the troubled soul,
Or remember the one who scored the game-winning goal.
You can sneer at the girl who said something rude,
Or you can smile at the time she made something for you.
So, people get older, people change.
I know that it's hard and I know that it's strange.
But I believe that memories keep people together,
It may not seem like it now, but they'll remember forever.
