Daily Flash Fiction Challenge entry.
I walk into the bar and sit down at a table in the corner. The private detective I hired walks over and sits across from me. Sam was his name, I had found him through an ad in the yellow pages. He was wearing this ridiculous shirt with brown and green stripes, an old dusty hat, and some brown slacks with a black belt holding them up.

He pushes over a large manila envelope. I slowly open it and pull out the pictures. I see my wife kissing another man. My heart immediately sinks to the bottom of my chest. I suspected this all along but I hoped I would be wrong. I hand the detective the $300 for his work.

The detective says to me “Sam, that man and your wife are on there way to this bar. This is why I had you meet me here.” I nod to him in reply. As the detective gets up and leaves I can see my wife through the window with her arms around the man from the pictures.

She didn’t notice me until they walked through the door together. I walk up to my wife as she entered the bar and hand her the pictures. All I said to her was “It’s over Sarah. You will be hearing from the my lawyer in the morning.” As the color drains from her face I walk out of the bar leaving her at the door speechless.

I hop in my car and drive away and mourn the loss of our marriage of 23 years.
