My attempt to write about a vague recollection of images and a feeling of impending doom.
In the Beginning

The night is black as tar.  I’m three years old and horrified, shaking in my mother’s arms.  A terrible chill runs through my body as she carries me down the front steps.  I don’t understand what’s happening, but a sense of dread has overpowered me and I know things have forever changed.  The door of the waiting car opens, and the sudden brightness of the dome light nearly blinds me.  I recognize the driver, as Mummy lowers me into the back.  There’s a loud THUD as two doors are slammed in quick succession, and I nearly jump out of my skin.  The light goes out, and the car drives off into the darkness.

That’s it, my first memory.
