The love of a mother is unconditional, irreplacable, and infinite.....
She scratched the pan for a grain of rice,

That was all on which they had to suffice,

A hungry mouth open wide,

Begging for food, uncooked or dried,

With a smile, she fed the mouth,

With all the love, she had in store.

Her pallid face bereft of emotions,

The world around seemed to encircle in a motion,

Days and days, no grain in taken,

The smile on her face was what she had faken.

Her stomach did growl, with extreme hunger her heart did howl.

But all hunger, all pain,

Went down the drain,

One smile she saw, a full stomach,

Her child fed, ready in bed to tuck.

Days and days without rain,

No water to drink, few of grain,

Rich somehow satisfied their hunger,

But they allowed hunger to plunder,

All muscles gone, skeleton began to show,

All the days of hunger had made her slow.

With the child tucked in,

And no one close or kin,

Some work to do, some grain to earn,

A morsel of food was all she did yearn.

She got up, with her last ounce of strength,

Keeping weakness and sorrow at an arm’s length.

Hours and hours, toiled in heat and sun,

Got a handful of grains for all she had done,

A satisfied smile, a peace of heart,

The child would eat, hunger will depart,

Her hunger would go, with smile on his face,

No hint of sorrow would show on her face.

Her life was worthless without her son,

Seeing him smile, gave her all joy and fun,

No effort more, no price huge,

To see her son happy, and be amused.

No moment, without his thought passed,

She thought of him and her pain did not last,

Her heart for him swelled with love,

Her hands prayed, as she thanked god above.
