Daily Flash Entry
They were sitting around the make-shift table discussing the best approach to resolving the situation that was just days away. The Halloween pumpkin had been discarded in the compost bin; the scent of the rotting carcass coming through rather strong despite their weak sense of smell, and as a result knew it was time to start planning for the Thanksgiving feast. An event which they had decided they would no longer be part of.

“What will we do this year?” Henrietta asked, fear obvious in her soft voice.

“Yes Tom,” echoed Harvey, Henrietta’s soul mate, his feathers ruffling, “What will we do?”

“I’m not sure yet what we will do, but what we won’t do is be the feature on their table. We outsmarted them last year, we can do it again. Idea’s bird-brains? ”

“Well,” Sid replied, “Obviously we can’t do the frantic run-around we had success with last year; while we have an incredible field of vision and could outrun them, they retaliated by installing that wire fence that restricts us now.”

The turkey’s all nodded their agreement; they knew they had to come up with a new plan if they were to survive this holiday.

“I have an idea,” Mildred offered. “How about we all play dead, you know, as if we were afflicted with that bird flu they keep talking about. Then we can have a miraculous recovery on Friday morning and carry on as usual. It worked for the pigs last Easter with that whole swine flu thing.”

Sid turned to his wife, his beak open with glee. “Yes! You’re brilliant! That could work.”

They all turned to Tom who was nodding in agreement. “I agree, this could work. It should even take us into Christmas. Then the geese will have to deal with it."
