Festive Season Fun Poem
The halls are all decked, the oven is on,
And it is barely the break of new dawn.
This year it’s us, to host the big fest,
Our family is coming, from east to out west.

Parents and uncles, aunts and their brood,
All looking forward to good Christmas food.
A couple of new ones we heard just may come,
Which puts the set table right at twenty-one.

They begin to arrive and the noise they do make,
And Aunt Martha brought that odd eggnog cake.
We sit ‘round the fire and toast to good cheer,
Share stories of Christmas and memories dear.

We’re now at the table, and thanks we do share,
Cousin Jack leans over and falls off the chair.
His wine hits the place mat and lands on Aunt Rose,
Uncle Tom does consider a punch on Jacks nose.

And new baby Harry is starting to howl,
Then his dad gets up with a bit of a growl.
Two moms brought potatoes, so whose are the best,
Big helpings of each, we can’t win that test.

I look down the table, my husband amused,
And then back at Jack, still overly boozed.
With a silent sigh I take in our guests,
And know it my heart, we truly are blessed.
