This is something I wrote on a prompt for a local newspaper contest.
                                      New Beginnings…

A wedding night:

Shefali, waited patiently for her new husband to arrive, as millions of thoughts went through her mind.

She dreaded her past but knew she had had no choice. Then she thought about the present and a pleasant calmness came about her and she began happy musing of her future with her wonderful husband. He was a true Angel, a gift of God to her.  She was happy he would be the last man in her life and...bed…. She jumped with joy at that thought, as not many girls in her past profession can say that……

“Yes…… past…” She tried to calm herself with these words. Very very few girls in her line of job could see this day, some say it only usually happens in stories, she had proved them wrong. No, wait, her husband had…. “Husband…even that word has magic to it…” She thought to herself.

Her mind cleared and biggest smile appeared on our young bride’s beautiful face, as her new husband entered the room. She thanked God and felt true happiness as she embarked upon her new beginning for she was no longer a call girl……………..

The birth of a first born:

Aslaam, impatiently paced the dirty corridor of a cheap clinic outside a crowded labor room. He had never felt this way before. Never had he found the need of  praying to God, of fearing His will. He had only seen fear and the need for prayer in the eyes and lips of the hundreds he had killed and threatened. But today….it was a whole different story….

The nurse finally put a stop to his agony informing him that he was the father of a beautiful baby and the mother was fine too. It seemed forever till they allowed him to go see his wife and kid.

Something dawned on him as he looked into those tiny sparkling eyes. Looking into them, he promised himself to never let his past touch his child, to wash his hands off blood for good and begin life anew, holding the tiny hands clutching his fingers right then, for he was no longer a hired thug.

A touch of new love:

Sarah woke with a start from horrible nightmares and found that morning had dawned. But only to find that what was disturbing her was not a dream but mere flashbacks of what had happened last night. It truly was disastrous…..

She was even more surprised and overwhelmed with gratitude and a little shame to see the person, exhausted to sleep near her bed. This person was the new light in her life. He had shown her that she deserved to be loved too. He had known her for a long time. He knew all about her troubled family life, her unreasonable self-reproach and just simply wrong ways of dealing with her pain. He had also always tried to help her with it, usually in vain. But last night he took a stand and gave a good enough reason to make her listen—he loved her…….. “….beyond life itself…”, he had told her.

It was very hard and agonizing and never before last night had she known that she could come back to a normal life.  But he was there with her, he had been there all night and had promised to be there always. Now was the first morning of her new life—of their new life…for she was no longer a drug addict…

A second chance:

Aryan, opened his eyes, which seemed to have been glued shut. He didn’t know where he was or why, only that his wonderful family was crying beside the bed his body seemed to be lain in. Funny thing was, he couldn’t feel any of it and although feeling was coming back it was only with tremendous pain.

“It was a miracle he had lived through that!” He had heard someone saying. He had been hearing many different things in what seemed like a few hours of sleep, but what alarmed him most were the cries of people he loved. He wondered why they wouldn’t let him sleep in peace. So, finally he had decided to wake up and ask them what’s wrong!

He had been in a very bad car accident and many bones were broken—he remembered with much pain now. He had been in a coma for over a week! He looked into his loved one's eyes and thanked God from the very bottom of his heart for giving him a second chance—a chance for a new beginning, for he was no longer an ungrateful atheistic...

Happy new year all……hope all of u get your new beginning……
