Pantoum, mildly political
I will not follow the herd
Nor will I go blind,
When I could be the shepherd
And follow my own mind.

Nor will I go blind
As clearly I can see;
And follow my own mind
With careful apathy.

As, clearly, I can see
The world is never fair.
With careful apathy,
Each has his cross to bear.

The world is never fair,
To the mild and the meek.
Each has his cross to bear--
And it's payment that they seek.

To the mild and the meek-
What causes you to wait?
If it's payment that you seek,
Why leave it up to fate?

What causes you to wait
For destiny to take your hand?
Why leave it up to fate
In this cold, uncaring land?

For destiny to take your hand--
Do you need to sell your soul?
In this cold, uncaring land,
We have lost all our control.

Do I need to sell my soul?
Should I join this endless flock?
Have I lost all my control?
And joined all that I mock?

Should I join this endless flock?
When I could be the shepherd
And not join all that I mock?
-- I will not follow the herd.
