A sonnet I wrote to a former friend
Your eyes have a fire that's all their own
Indeed windows to your soul they may be
They pierce through my hearth, they pierce through my bone
So nothing within me you cannot see
If distance breeds fondness, I do not know
Or if shores away I'd love thee better
But thinking of thee while I lie alone
Inspires me to write you these letters
The words are oft eloquent but they fail
In conveying my truest intentions
Though you shall receive thoughts of me by mail,
Thoughts of you dominate my attention
You circle my thoughts, inhabit my dreams!
Unfounded fondness to such an extreme
