Poem on life and the future
I will be a young man, wrapped up in a
Lover,
Clutching her body to mine.
I will whisper in her ear my unyielding
Promise
And carry her off into our romance.

I will be a father, holding my
Child
To my chest and sending him to rest.
I will kiss my wife, turn off the
Light,
And worry about how I will care for them.

I will know joy when my wife holds our
Granddaughter
For the first time, hearing her soft, careful breathes.
I will join her, our heads reaching each other’s,
Knowing
Our lives have come to this moment.

I will be an old man, huddled close around
Myself,
The chill of winter ever strong in my body.
I will walk with a cane, my bones
Break
And can no longer hold me.

I will grow scared when the cancer strikes
Me
And languish fills my heart with pain.
I will seek comfort, but I will not find it in
Her.
The cancer makes me forget that she is already gone.

I will care when my son reaches for my
Hand
And prays that my mind will return to me.
I will smile, though he will not
See,
My body has already left this world.

I will forget, as my mind drifts away from these
Memories
And become fragments of this life.
I will no longer feel, but rather become
Whole,
The fading image of their lives moving on.
