Inspired by Ian McEwan's "Atonement"
You seduced me by surprise
A familiar stranger,
By the fountain.
The wet marble glistening,
Reflecting in your eyes-
It caught me by surprise.
I could smell the danger
All around us, mounting.
The flowers turned to spies,
Alert and listening,
But I refused to realize
That your intent was to create danger.
You seduced me by surprise-
I thought you were a stranger.
