a poem on an encounter
I was told once when I was little,
That the most beautiful women were always just fleeting moments
When angels came down from heaven to give us a piece of paradise.

And then I lost god.
Or god lost me, I forget which.

But when I was out looking for god on a lonely night
In winter,
I happened upon a cobbled road with a single streetlight.

And from the streetlight I saw a shadow stretched out down the way.
A cold chill climbed up my neck.
And then the shadow became open and warm and full of light,
As if it were the sunset on a Cuban beach.
And the snow rose up to greet it, chasing after its dance so suddenly
That they became as colorful birds, rising above you.

You pulled me in, and we danced
With the sounds of guitar driving our feet
As Latin women in crimson dresses jeered us on,
We danced through the snowy path, until
I lost my balance.

Your hand reached mine and we found ourselves
Laying on a beach of white snow

You were an angel, I knew,
With auburn hair
And eyes as deep as the sea
I knew you were a paradise.

You kissed me there against the waves so calm
With the howl of the cold and snow thousands of miles away.
We kissed under the shade of waving palm
As crabs scuttled into gray.
