Reflection on what happens when silence is present.
In Silence

There is a certain sort of loudness
perceived within silence,
though perhaps not a noise
heard from without.
It is the voice of your soul
whispering inside you,
spilling unknown secrets onto your heart.
In the hush of the
world around you,
chaos builds to a frantic stream
of inner consciousness
heard only by yourself.
Here is the moment
when you discover,
as fears emerge,
hopes mount,
pain is felt,
and all that you may never have come to know about
who you really are stands up and shouts
"Who are you?!"
"I'm right here, and yet you hide me and leave me to be
squelched within you as that half-alive
shell plays its superficial role."
"Why do you hide me?"
Now the silence grows too much,
the everything you hold feels to heavy to bear,
but you are fascinated
and listen to the silence anyway.
In the absence of sound,
you are forced to be confronted
by your true self
and the self you pretend to be.
But if you realize the message
of the silence,
the self inside you quiets
as you return to
reality's chaos,
bringing to the noise
the peace of knowing
who you are,
even in the silence.
