The story of how I met and lost my first love
I remember the day I first saw your face
you were the friend of a friend and didn't say much
The next thing I know
we spend hours on the phone
I sat by the window and stared
at the same stars I know you saw too
Our first kiss, unromantic but sweet,
In the bathroom of a friends house
I'll never forget
I started shaking and couldn't stop smiling

You were my favorite reason for fridays to arrive
Every other one, I knew
Was the start of a weekend full of you
Each kiss was exciting and new
But when you're 16, so is each song on the radio
I had no idea what I was getting into
Until the night you told me you loved me

We were young, we thought we knew what we wanted
How were we supposed to see what was happening?
In those years together, we dealt with so much
Only seeing each other twice a month
But after you left, things started falling apart
Mostly me, in my room late at night
Because you were always on my mind

With you, I thought I knew what love was
But "love" is a tricky word for me these days
Is it real? Was what we had the best I'll ever know?
You've carved your own place in my heart
That's where you'll forever be.
