My never ending love affair and reliance on litereature to get me through the day.
That raw feeling, like when you finish a novel,
And you fall to quickly back into the harshness of reality.
You can taste the bitterness and the finality of the dream,
And you're hungover from the intoxication that world provided.
Reading isn't a chore, reading is an addiction,
Filled with sweet highs and condemned by terrible, final blows.
"Innocent once lost can never be regained",
And the freshness of a story stagnates as well.
Though letting the repetition burn the words into your retinas, your mind,
Tastes like ice cream the excitement is colder,
But still it lives in you just as sweet.
That raw, empty, begining that only comes from an end feeling,
That is what I feel now.
I lay in my bed just wishing to extend the magic,
But it is gone, the story ended and the characters have disappearing,
Scurrying away in the the strange crevices of my mind.
I wish I could read a book that never ends,
I wish that I could write it too.
A story is the most powerful force we have,
And one of the oldest.
The sweetness of the books before have left me quite bitter,
Perhaps this is the real reason reading has become a dying fashion.
For the cruel world is much more bearable,
When behind binding and pages.
Now when my peers drink, and do drugs,
Drive blindly into the night,
Speeding down pathways, straight to their dark deaths
Reckless, yet perhaps they have realised the truth,
I cannot stand to believe it,
And thus I hide my eyes and divert my gaze away,
But the strength of reality is always at the end.
Each time more bitter and cruel than the last,
Until I tremble to even list a tome,
Yet my madness drives me forward, aching
A reckless end may be kinder,
For the trepidations of my heart can not venture further,
I fear the sweet release is growing much too strong.
Books aren't boring or dull, if only they were.
That raw feeling consumes me now,
Unless the books capture my heart first.
If only my mind could make them fresh again.
So sweet, so cruel, too saccharine, too bestial.
"The devil must be a dentist, with deep jawbreaker eyes"
