This is about my first visit to the magnificent Grand Canyon in Arizona.
The first time I visited the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona was with my family in the crisp season of spring. The flowers were just blooming and the chill of winter was long past. Upon entering the south parking lot, scads of children walked hand in hand with their parents, anxious to view one of the most beautifully historical landmarks known to man. Excitement built in my body as I watched my own children become restless and excited about seeing one of the world’s natural wonders.
As I got closer to the south rim, the most assessable part of the Grand Canyon, I gazed over carefully and a sense of awe struck me and I had to take a deep breath as I gasped at the intense beauty and majestic landscape structured by a Creator with infinite imagination. The colors, textures, vivid picturesque view were simply breathtaking. I know this was one place no one should ever leave this earth without embarking on its magnificent beauty.

The feeling of incomparable sculptures overtook my mind and I nabbed my camera to capture some of the most wonderful sights I ever laid eyes on. Other families gathered on the rocks nestled besides one another within inches from the drop off and flashed their smiles in front of the most striking backdrops in the world. This place is a photographer’s dream and that is exactly what I had in mind. I had registered to enter my personal photos in a contest on the National Geographic site and felt my heart beat out of my body almost when I scanned the horizon for a place to begin shooting. Deep in my heart I knew God carved His very signature into every crevice, nook and cranny. For this display of rock formations was given to all mankind as a gift like no other.

After dumping over 2,000 gorgeous photos onto my 8G camera card, I strolled into the souvenir shop to bring home some of these unique memories and historical facts worthy of sharing again and again. As I walked up and down each aisle, I was truly awestruck at the pictures of this mile deep canyon that was thought to have been formed so many years ago. I am so glad my family and I visited this magnificent wonder and know we will be back each year to enjoy its unchallenged beauty and stunning wonder. The Grand Canyon is surely a place I am thankful I visited in my lifetime. There is truly nothing like it in all the world.
