Romance and the character's lives together
I was walking down the hallway, towards my locker, when I heard my name being called out. I turned around to see who it was. It happened to be the guy that I've been best friends with forever. We were both starting freshman year, as of today. We had pretty much been friends our whole entire life just like our mothers had been. And it so happens that we were born on the same day, in the same hospital, and we were two hours apart. Oh, and our names are pretty similar too. Mine is Alexandria and his is Alexander. But everyone calls me Andi and him Alex.
Anyway, I stopped and waited for him to catch up with me. When he did, I said, "Hey, what's up? How has your first day gone so far?" as we continued going to my locker.
" It's gone pretty well. I think that I'm going to like high school. How has your day gone?"
"It's alright. I've gotten lost a few times, but there's always someone there to help," I told him as I opened my locker.
"Well that's good! What class are you going to next?"
"Uh... Chemistry. With Uh.... Willard. You?"
"Same! We finally have a class together! Let's walk together!"
We walked to class together, in out own thoughts. I was thinking about how things have changed between the two of us this past year. We were really close until girls started coming into his life and boys into mine. Sometimes I think that deep down we like each other more than the friends that we had become, so we were jealous of each other when one or the other got a date. But I wasn't sure, so I decided to bring the topic up once we had started up the stairs and into the science hallway.
"Do you think that we have parted a little, this past year, Alex?"
"I don't know what we mean. We've always have been close and I don't think that has changed, why?"
"It's just that whenever one of us gets a date, the other person, Uh, I don't know, is kind of jealous. So I was thinking that maybe we have stronger feelings for each other, than we think."
Alex didn't say anything, so I started to worry, that me confessing my feelings to him, was not a good idea. "I mean, its just a thought," I said quickly as we sat down at two desks next to each other in the classroom that was half full.
"Don't get me wrong, Andi, but I only like you as a friend. Only because that's all I have ever known with you. And I think that if we dated then that friendship that we built up for many years, would be destroyed and it would never go back to the way it was before."
"But have you ever thought that we were meant to be more than just best friends? I mean, look at us, we have so much in common, and that's not because of our moms. Yea, we grew up together, and that might be why we like the same things. But the point is, is that we discovered those likes together! So I think that we would be perfect for each other as more than just friends."
"Have you ever thought that we were only meant to be friends?"
"Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention!" Mr. Willard called out. Well, I was saved by the teacher. Everyone turned to look at Mr.Willard, with their full attention.
"Thank you. Now, today I know is your first day as freshman, and high school, blah-blah, but we are going to start our lesson about atoms and how th....." I droned him out and pulled out a piece of paper and wrote, ' Yea I have, actually. I've thought about all ofthe possibilities. I mean maybe we could give it a try. Please. I don't think that it will ruin our friendship, like you think,' and passed it to Alex.
He quickly read it and wrote down a short reply and then passed it back to me.
When I read it, it said,'and how do u no tht it won't change?'
'Because we no each other all 2 well for it NOT to b the same!'
'Ok... That's a good point. What if I did say that we could give it a try? Would u b happy? Would u try to make it work out?'
'I would b more than happy & I really think that it will work out only if both of us try our hardest to make it work out.'
'Fine. I think that we can do that. Lets give it a try.'
'Thank you so much. ;)' I passed the note to him and then looked up at the clock. YES!!! Five more minutes of class and the school day and then we were all free!

We were walking to my locker after class, in silence, when Alex stated," This is kind of awkward. Do you know what I mean?"
"Yea, it kind of is. But this will pass soon, once we get used to the idea."

We walked home side by side, laughing and having fun, just like it had always been. But when we came to my house, which is two before his, that all changed. It got quiet and awkward. To lighten the mood, I punched his arm and said, "Well, see you tomorrow, Prince Charming."
"Who are you calling Prince Charming? Are you saying you are a princess, m'lady?" Alex asked, kneeling down and grabbing my hand. He brought it to his lips and brushed my knuckles with them, very softly.
Laughing I said, " You may get up, sire. No need for you to be kneeling all day!" He just stayed kneeling and holding my hand. So I raised my voice and said, "I told you to get up, sire!"
"Yes, m'lady." And then he stood up. He looked down at his watch and then said, " I must get going, m'lady. I shall see you tomorrow. I will walk you to school tomorrow so wait for me!" he kissed me lightly on the cheek and then ran the rest of the way to his house.
I stood at the end of my driveway, right where he left me, and watched him until he had disappeared onto his house, smiling to myself the whole time.

That was how it pretty much started. I was right, it DID get less awkward as we got used to the idea. We went through high school together. And yup, we made it. Yeah, we had occasional fights, but we worked through them together.
We ended up going to the same college and graduating. Now we both work in a doctors office. It so happens that he's the doctor and I'm his nurse. Funny, huh?

Anyway, while I was working on some paper work I hear someone walk onto my office. I turn around to see who it was, and of course it was just Alex.
"What are you doing tonight, m'lady?" Alex asked.
"Nothing that I know of, Prince Charming. Why? What do you have in store for us tonight?"
"I have reservations for us at that Italian restaurant that you love so much at eight. How does that sound?"
"Great! Now may I get back to work, so I can get out of here to be able to make that reservation on time?"
"Yes you may. See you tonight. I shall pick you up so wait for me."
"Will do," I said while I turned back around to finish the paper work.

At quarter till eight, Alex rang up to my apartment. I rode the elevator down to meet him. The drive was quiet but it wasn't awkward at all.
When we arrived, Alex looked at me and said, " We are not going to talk about work at all tonight, ok?"
"Yes, sire."
As we walked in, the hostess noticed Alex, and told us to follow her. But, as we walked behind her, Alex stopped and started talking to the manager. I gave him a looked that asked him what he was doing, but he just waved at me to continue to the table.

To be continued....
