Yeah, this one's a bit self indulgent. But why not?!
Splinters
Criss Dane

Once there was a real
Long ago there was a whole
Whereas now I stretch to feel
The lingering splinters of a soul

Long ago there was a whole
Beneath a thinner skin
The lingering splinters of a soul
Now scatter in the wind

From beneath a thinner skin
You mined the inner glow
Now scatter in the wind
Once you take your share and go

You mined the inner glow
Scavengers all of you
Take your share and go
Deferring as you do

Scavengers all of you
Run and find your hole
Deferring as you do
I’ll find quiet in the null

Run and find your hole
We all exist in shades
I’ll find quiet in the null
As endless daybreak fades

We all exist in shades
We chase the laurels pleading
As endless daybreak fades
The dream long since receding

We chase the laurels pleading
Yet still I stretch to feel
The dream long since receding
Where once there was a real
