Being a werewolf alone in a world of humans is hard- especially when you're being hunted.
Jessica slowly titled her head to get a full view of the tall white walls looming around her. There were no windows, no furniture, not even a door.
No mirrors, she thought sadly.
Jessica took in a shaky breath. The other patients at least had mirrors in their rooms. The thirteen-year-old knew why she was the only one who didn't.
Even here I'm the black sheep, she thought.
The last time Jessica saw a mirror, she took it off the wall and flung it to the ground. She still remembered the sparkling pool of broken shards of glass that flooded the floor afterwards. The astonished looks on her parents pale faces. The pain she felt from clenching her fists so hard. They hadn't seen what she had. The fur covering her face that would soon be visible to the world. The fangs in her mouth. Why was she the only one who'd seen it?
Maybe it's better this way, she decided.
At least mom and dad hadn't seen me as a...
...wolf.
The next full moon was tonight. She could see herself crashing through the 10-inch walls of the nuthouse.
Out into the world.
Stalking the mystyifying full moon.
Hunting down innocent animals.

If I'm the werewolf, she asked herself, why do I feel as though I'm the one being hunted?
