Shape poetry: a poem about heroes, and about trying to follow their lead.

I’ll follow in my father’s footprints,

as he leads me through life. He is my hero,

my example, all that I strive to be when I grow up.

He’s caring and professional, knowing always what to do.

I can’t wait to grow up, and act just like him too. I’ll follow

in my mother’s footsteps, she’s the type of person I want to be.

She’s loving and sensitive, her genuine charisma is the key.

I’ll follow my grandpa’s lead, he’s passionate, stubborn and fun.

I hope when I’m a grandpa, my joy too will burn as brightly

as the sun. My grandma, that’s another story, she’s just the

best at all things. I’m going to follow in her footprints, take

all the happiness she brings. There’s my teacher, can’t

forget her, she taught me how to read. Her footsteps

I will follow, wherever they may lead. But what

about my soccer coach? He’s my leader too,

I aspire to be like him, a true soccer guru.

Then there’s Ghandi, Lincoln and Martin

Luther King. Who like my other heroes

did amazing things. Terry Fox, Einstein,

and Sir Frederick Banting, the list

doesn’t stop there, there’s more

and more people I need to be

adding. There’s so many I look up

to, so many footsteps I want to chase,

and chase them I will. But I

worry what to do, when they’re

way too big to fill.
